Dating

Dating in Miami,
without the apps.

A swiping-free playbook for meeting people through plans instead of profiles.

Most people in Miami over 25 are tired of dating apps. The matches are shallow, the conversations die, the people are not who their photos suggest. The good news is Miami is one of the easiest cities in America to meet people in real life, if you know where to put yourself.

The principle: be findable, be repeatable, be social

Three rules. Findable means you go to places where the right people might also be. Repeatable means you go to the same places enough times to be a familiar face. Social means you actually talk to people instead of standing in a corner on your phone.

Where to be findable in Miami

Run clubs

Tropical Park Run Club on Saturday mornings. Brickell Run Club Tuesday evenings. Casual pace, mixed crowd, post-run coffee where the actual conversations happen.

Group fitness

Barry's, Equinox, Anatomy, F45 - pick one studio, become a regular at a specific class time. Six weeks in, you know everyone in that class. Eight weeks in, you are getting invited to brunch.

Bookstores and coffee shops with a scene

Books & Books in the Gables. Panther Coffee in Wynwood and the Grove. The Standard Spa lobby. Bring a real book. Look up occasionally.

Standing-room shows and concerts

North Beach Bandshell and Ball & Chain in Little Havana both have music nights where talking to strangers is normal. See our Miami concerts guide.

How to actually start a conversation

The bar for opening a conversation is much lower than people think. "Hey, how's the class?" "Have you tried the X here, is it good?" "Did you catch the part where..." That is it. The trick is doing it in low-pressure settings where the conversation can naturally end without it being weird.

The Plus 1 angle

Plus 1 was built specifically as the dating app alternative. Instead of swiping, you post or join real plans - a dinner, a yacht day, a concert, a wine tasting - and the matching is built around shared interest in that specific plan. You meet over an actual experience. By the end of it you know if there is a spark. If yes, you make another plan. If no, you both go home having had a great night.

If you have just moved here, also read our 30-day Miami playbook.

What to skip

  • The Cabana Pool Parties. Beautiful, expensive, and impossible to actually talk to anyone over the music.
  • Vibes-only mixers. If the event description does not say what you'll actually do, skip it.
  • Speed dating. Always feels forced.

Skip the swiping.

Plus 1 helps you meet people through plans, not profiles.
