The plans-first social app that took Miami to 32K+ downloads is now available in New York (early community). Here's how early Manhattan users are already coordinating their friend groups on it, and how you can be first.
We built Plus 1 in Miami. One year in, we hit 32,425 downloads, 1,800+ real plans posted, and a network of yacht days, F1 weekends, Sunday brunches, wellness meet-ups, and gallery openings hosted by real members every week. Now we're taking it to New York.
The NYC community is still early. We already have Manhattan users, mostly in Chelsea, LES, West Village, and pockets of Brooklyn. And the honest truth about what they're doing with it right now is more interesting than a typical "download our app" pitch. So this post is that.
NYC doesn't have Miami's density yet. If you download today expecting hundreds of plans posted this weekend, you'll be disappointed. The lift-off variable is local density, you need enough people in one metro that the plans someone posts feel achievable. Miami got there first because the founding team is Miami-based and the city runs on a "who's going?" culture.
New York is a different animal. It's bigger, more distributed, more skeptical of anything with an onboarding step. But the underlying need is worse in NYC. New Yorkers have more friends who moved away, more friends they can't get on a group chat with, more group chats they can't keep track of, and more plans that die on the vine because "someone was supposed to book the reservation."
The Miami playbook doesn't drop straight into New York. The NYC version has to earn density block by block, and that means starting with people who already know each other.
Grab your existing NYC group chat (usually 8-15 people). Invite them all to Plus 1. When anyone in the group has a plan, brunch at Cluny, dinner at Balthazar, drinks at The Nines, they post it in Plus 1 instead of in the group chat. Everyone in the group sees it, sees who's in, and can request to join. It's the coordination tool the group chat has been trying to be for two years. No more "wait who's actually coming" three days later.
Ideas is a section inside the app, happy hour spots, brunch spots, date-night ideas, wellness experiences, all pulled together and browseable by neighborhood. Manhattan users are using it as a curated "what should we do tonight" browser instead of Googling "date night NYC" for the 40th time. Save the spot, or post a plan to try it, or send it to your +1.
Plus 1 has Ticketmaster integrated. If there's a concert, a Knicks game, a Broadway show, or a Comedy Cellar set you want to go to, you can post a plan tied directly to the ticket link. Anyone in your group requests in, buys their own ticket, and you're set. No more "hey does anyone want to see Chappell Roan" text that dies at 2 responses.
We're telling you this on purpose because we'd rather you download it with the right expectations and stick around than download it, get confused, and delete it in 20 minutes.
Best-case scenario is you get 5-8 of your friends on it in the first week. Here's the pattern we've watched work:
Full NYC now live (early community) means: hosted Plus 1 events in Manhattan (rooftop, gallery, wellness, yacht), a NYC-specific Ideas library (happy hours, date-night spots, run clubs, weekly recurring meet-ups), and enough member density that if you post a plan in Chelsea for Saturday, someone you don't know but should meet requests in. That's where Miami is now, and that's what we're building for NYC.
Being early is worth it because when we go from 500 NYC users to 5,000, the value curve compounds fastest for people who were already inside and had already posted plans. The connections that form early tend to stick.
